6 Places you have to visit in Malta

(Last Updated On: February 9, 2018)

Malta is a small island close to Italy and it is every holiday maker`s paradise. At first I was surprised to find out that not many people are familiar with this extraordinary country.

This is the perfect place if you want to escape your everyday hectic lifestyle and enjoy the smell of fresh sea water. Malta is packed with beautiful beaches that are simply breathtaking.

The best part, when it comes to Malta is that there are some places that will surprise you and you would never expect to find here.

So if you are lucky enough and have a chance to visit Malta, here is a list of places that you have to visit.

Popeye Village

On top of my list is Popeye Village. This is where “Popeye” was filmed in the 80s and since then it is one of the main tourist attractions in Malta.

Find out here what they are offering all year round.

To be honest, I do not remember very well the very popular cartoon, I remember Popeye of course, and how he gets his strength from eating spinach but that is all.

This place is magical. When you first arrive you will see a colorful cast of people dancing, and the funny part was that they were led by Popeye himself.

The best time to visit the village is during the summer, but we went in October and we had a blast. It was not that crowded and we were lucky it was not raining that day either.

The park organizes different events each day, and there is a documentary on the history of the park that you should not miss.

Valletta

Valetta comes as no surprise, because this is the capital of Malta so you cannot miss it even if you try.

Valletta is a small fortress city with beautiful architecture. This is where everything is happening. There are different events and the night life is excellent. So if you go there and you want to party big we suggest you find accommodation in this part of Malta.

Gozo Island

Gozo is the second largest island that is part of the Maltese archipelago. Some of you might recognize this place, especially if you are a mythology buff, that this is where the nymph Calypso kept Odysseus captivated for many years.

The place is packed with small churches and wine yards and offers many activities for its visitors.

Gonzo Island is popular for the Azure Window, which is where a very popular scene from Game of Thrones was filmed.

Marsaxlokk

Marsaxlokk is a small fishing village that is situated in the southern part of Malta.

We would advise you to visit this beautiful coastal area on Sunday morning and catch a glimpse of the fish market. If you want you can buy something for yourself too, if you are willing to cook.

St. Julian`s and Paceville

St. Julian`s and Paceville is only 9km from Valetta and this is the place where all the fun happens. There are many bars that stay open until early in the morning and if you are looking for a place to have fun look no more.

The night life in Malta is fun mostly because you see many different cultures clash in one place. There are different bars and they are all unique in its own way so you will for sure enjoy it.

Comino Island

Comino Island is the last on my list, but that is just because I do not enjoy swimming a lot. This place is exquisite when it comes to clear water and beautiful sandy beaches.

This island is uninhabited and you cannot spend the night here, unless you are staying in the one hotel on the island. You can go there by a boat spend the day and get back again.
