If you are thinking of becoming freelance blogger and starting your own website then you have come to the right place. I have been in your shoes couple of years ago. I know it is a very difficult decision to quit your 9 to 5 job and plunge into something new, something unknown. Especially because we are used to the routine and at times we realize that that is what we need most of the times.

Make a decision

It is not so easy to jump into the unknown and say goodbye to the stability that your job offers to you. Freelance is still something new for many people. There are plenty of opportunities that freelancing is offering to you and most importantly it gives you freedom to choose what you want to do and you can do it with passion.

Freelancing takes time

Freelancing is not something you can start doing immediately. It takes time to learn all the perks of the job. And I have to say that freelance is a job too, but a job that gives you better chance for success and in my case lower amount of stress, which is my favourite part.

Before you quit your job

I personally hate the quotes of the type ‘Quit your job…’ and do something. You cannot just make an irrational decision to do something without thinking and planning beforehand. You have to take action towards making something happen. After all, freelance might not be for you. This is also a job that requires certain skills, and at the same time you have to make some sacrifices too.

Working for yourself

Once you decide to start freelance blogging you have to know that writing is not the only thing you have to do. It is true that you do need a lot of content on your blog, but you also have to take care of accounting and networking, just to name some. And most of all, if you are not ready to put in the work then you should not do it.

Start creating content

The thing that I always say to everyone who wants to start blogging is to write as much as they can. Once you have decided that you are willing to take the effort you should start writing. If you have not worked as a freelance writer before you should test a concept and see how it goes for you. But I would highly recommend you to write something and get published on some other blogs. If you are a new freelance blogger you have to be a bit craftier because this is a very competitive industry.

It is not always easy to come up with content. To write a good post it requires time, you need to do a research first. At the beginning it took me more than 5 hours to write 1000 words even on a subject that I was good at, but with time and lots of practice I managed to reduce that time.

Get Started as a Freelancer

Before I have decided to have my own blog I was a freelance writer myself. I used to work for many clients creating content in different niche. You can start by creating a profile on LinkedIn, Freelancer.com or Upwork.com. These are all great platforms where you can find potential clients.

EXTRA TIP! Know your worth, give your best and ALWAYS meet your deadline!!!

Once you accept a job from a client discuss the job details. If you are unsure of something ask as many questions as you need. There are many clients that will disappear after you deliver the job, so for that reason always insist on a contract.

In the end, take a critical look at how far you have come as a freelancer, and if you are still happy to continue doing the same then I have faith in you. Freelance blogging might be the right thing for you, and you cannot know if you haven’t tried it yet.

Like any other job freelancing has its own pros and cons, but if you are determined to become your own boss than this might be the right job for you.
